The Seagrove, North Carolina, community is mourning the passing of Robert Stephen “Bobby” Jones, who died on July 12, 2026, at the age of 57, following an accident at his home. Born on October 19, 1968, in Montgomery County, Bobby was the son of James Robert Jones and Barbara Steed. From an early age, he developed the values of hard work, determination, and perseverance that would guide him throughout his life. Those who knew him remember a man who took pride in everything he did and approached each opportunity with commitment and passion.

Bobby spent more than 24 years working in the racing industry, where he gained extensive experience and formed lasting friendships with colleagues and members of the racing community. His dedication to his profession reflected his strong work ethic and his ability to build genuine connections with those around him. Many who worked alongside him respected not only his knowledge and skills but also the loyalty and friendship he brought to every relationship.

Outside of his career, Bobby embraced life through his many passions and hobbies. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed camping, traveling, riding his Harleys, and restoring old cars. These interests reflected his adventurous nature, love of exploration, and appreciation for craftsmanship. Whether working on a restoration project or enjoying time outdoors, Bobby found joy in experiences that allowed him to create memories and share moments with others.

Family was an important part of Bobby’s life. He is survived by his loving wife, Melissa “Lisa” McDaniel Jones, with whom he shared his home and many cherished memories. He is also survived by his father, James Robert Jones of Cheraw, South Carolina; his sister, Ashley Jones; his brother, Shane Jones, both of Cheraw; sister-in-law Debbie Wallace (Perry) of Star; nephew Pierce Wallace of Star; and his beloved pets, Jackson and Daisy, who brought companionship and happiness into his life.

Those who knew Bobby remember him as someone with a unique personality, a generous heart, and a genuine appreciation for life. His family and friends continue to reflect on the laughter, conversations, and experiences they shared with him. The memories he created and the impact he made through his kindness, interests, and relationships will remain a lasting part of his legacy.

As news of Bobby’s passing spreads, the community has come together to offer condolences and support to his loved ones. Though his absence leaves a tremendous void, those who knew him are finding comfort in celebrating the life he lived and the many moments that made him special.

A Celebration of Life service honoring Robert Stephen “Bobby” Jones will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at White Oak Meeting House, located at 2190 US Hwy 220 Alt. N, Star, NC 27356. The Jones family is being served by Phillips Funeral Home in Star.

In place of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to The Humane Society of the Uwharries, P.O. Box 231, Troy, NC 27371, in honor of Bobby’s love and compassion for animals.
