Gaylord Y. Barkman Obituary, Beach City OH Death: Community Mourns Beloved Resident

The Beach City, Ohio, community is mourning the passing of Gaylord Y. Barkman, 61, whose life was defined by faith, love, service, and a deep commitment to helping others. Gaylord passed away from respiratory failure at OSU Medical Center in Columbus on Monday, July 13, 2026, surrounded by his wife and children as he peacefully went to be with the Lord.

Born on March 28, 1965, to the late Raymond J. Barkman and Clara (Mullet) Barkman, Gaylord grew into a man known for his devotion to family, ministry, and community. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, minister, and friend whose compassion and genuine care for others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Gaylord shared a beautiful life with his wife, Celesta (Kauffman), whom he married in 1992. Their 34 years together were built on love, faith, and a shared commitment to family. To those closest to him, Gaylord was a source of encouragement, wisdom, and unconditional support. His greatest joy came from the relationships he nurtured and the people he was blessed to serve.

A devoted member and minister at Christian Life Mennonite Church, Gaylord dedicated many years of his life to serving others through faith. Since joining the ministry in 2001, he offered guidance, compassion, and spiritual encouragement to countless individuals. His love for Jesus and commitment to sharing God’s word remained central throughout his life.

Gaylord’s passion for ministry also led him to serve as an IGo pastor in Chiang Mai, Thailand, for six years. During that time, he continued his mission of connecting with people, offering support, and sharing his faith with those around him. His dedication reflected a lifelong desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Outside of ministry, Gaylord worked in sales with Ferra Manufacturing, where he continued to build relationships and encourage those he met. Colleagues, friends, and community members remember him as someone who valued people above all else. His kindness, warmth, and ability to make others feel appreciated were qualities that defined his interactions.

Family was at the center of Gaylord’s life. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Celesta, and six children: Cherie (Austin) Miller, Zachary (Rebekah) Barkman, Christina (Randy) Garcete, Trevor (Meagan) Barkman, Michael (Katrina) Barkman, and Chloe (Erwin) Miller. He was also a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren. His surviving family includes his brother-in-law Merle Beachy and brothers Ervin, Martin, James, Joel, Clement, and Lael Barkman.

Following news of his passing, heartfelt tributes have been shared by church members, friends, colleagues, and those whose lives were touched by Gaylord’s kindness. Many remembered him as a mentor, co-pastor, confidant, and faithful friend who provided guidance and encouragement through life’s most meaningful moments.

Gaylord’s influence was seen in the many weddings, baptisms, funerals, conversations, and personal connections where he offered compassion and support. His legacy is reflected not only in the words he spoke but also in the lives he changed through his example of faith, humility, and service.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 20, at 10:00 AM at Christian Life Mennonite Church, located at 11663 Kaylor Rd NW, Beach City, Ohio 44608, with Joe Heatwole officiating. Burial will follow at the Christian Life Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Calling hours will take place at the church on Saturday, July 18, from 5–7 PM and Sunday, July 19, from 1–3 PM and 5–7 PM. Family, friends, and community members are invited to gather in remembrance and celebrate the life of a man who dedicated himself to faith, family, and service.

The Barkman family has expressed gratitude for the prayers, love, and support extended by relatives, friends, and the Christian Life Mennonite Church community during this difficult time.
